Meet Your Moxie Team

Melissa Hinton, Owner....I was never athletic growing up. Outdoorsy, yes, but there were no sports scholarships being won here. Movement is what helped me overcome the powerlessness that engulfed me after gaining over a hundred pounds. My children were starting to explore life without me. Rather than sink into depression, my “movement” friends rallied around me with kindness, I became strong again trusting my own body. I'm a teacher of movement and an empowerment educator. Our adventures, interactions with family, friends, and those we hold dear -- that's what makes life rich and meaningful. I'm a certified Balanced Body Comprehensive Instructor who is certified in Stott Pilates, Mat, Reformer, Cadillac, Chair, Barre, Ladder Barrel, Props Barre Fitness, Group Fitness Trainer, and AEA Aqua Fitness Instructor. I have been teaching fitness including Couch to 5k run groups, Total Body Strength, and Boot Camp for more than twelve years.

Brittany Mora...As a lifelong mover, I've never known life without constant movement. After completing a degree in dance education, I continued a rigorous movement practice through performance and teaching at an average of 8 hours daily in my adult life. In 2014, I began to experience negative effects that traditional dance technique can have on a dancer's body. After knee surgery I started searching for healthier ways my body could get the same movement medicine but without the wear and tear. That search led me from no-impact Barre fitness, then Pilates, to Yoga and finally to the recovery provided by fascia manipulation. My goal is for every client to leave feeling physically strong, able-bodied and mentally, better than they felt when they walked in the door. I have a BA in Dance & Education, Certified in Pilates Mat, Reformer, Chair, Props. Barre Fitness Fascia Release & Manipulation, Registered Yoga Teacher 200hr; Certified Meditation Teacher 200hr

Michael Barbour...Mike has been leading group Fitness and Pilates classes for over 27 years in and around the Baltimore area. After moving back to NC and finding Moxie Pilates he continues to combine his experience as a Licensed Massage/Bodywork Therapist (over 25 years) with Pilates (Reformer, Chair, Tower, Ladder Barrel, Props). He is also a Balanced Body Pilates Instructor. His passion is to bring his clients an enjoyable yet challenging experience every time. Coming to Pilates through a painful spinal injury and subsequent surgery, he has experienced how Pilates can transform one’s relationship with their own body. “Pilates is what my mind, body and self esteem craved for so long while I distracted myself with traditional “workouts”. It’s shown me how to use and appreciate my body like an instrument instead of fighting with it and beating it up.”

Rodniqua Minor...I've always been athletic and physically active throughout my life. Growing up I tried all different types of sports, but basketball became my focus, in which I played competitively during my early years. When I went to college, I fell in love with ballroom dancing, which led to competing on a national level. I competed in ballroom dancing for a few years even placing once in nationals. My last year in college, I found barre. After college I fell in love with full body strength training in yoga, and Pilates. This is when I truly started to see results with my body that I liked. I am certified in Pilates Comprehensive - Mat, Reformer, Cadillac, Chair, Ladder Barrel, Props.

Skyler Meads...“Born and raised in Goldsboro, NC, I’ve always been fascinated by the human body—so much so that I pursued a degree in biology with a concentration in human anatomy and physiology, originally planning to become a doctor. While that dream never came to fruition, I still found myself in the healthcare field, working on the pharmaceutical side of things. As I got older, I struggled with the changes I saw in my body. It felt like my body was rebelling against me and I no longer had control over it. That all changed in August 2023 when I took my first Pilates class at Moxie with Melissa. What started as a workout quickly became so much more – it became a source of empowerment, community and friendship. Pilates gave me the tools to reconnect with my body and change how I perceived the changes that I struggled to accept. I'm completing my certification in Pilates Mat & Reformer.

Gina Whitman, Executive Assistant... With many years in education and most recently an elementary school principal, I joined Moxie to help with the backstage clerical and administrative duties. As a lover of Pilates myself, I know the importance of staying with it and the health benefits that you acquire along the way. If you are debating on becoming a part of the Moxie Family, do not wait a minute longer. Just do it, do it for yourself, you will thank yourself later.

Barbara Long...Movement has been foundational to my lifestyle since I was a small child studying ballet. My background as a choreographer, ballet teacher, and aerobics instructor has provided a solid foundation for becoming a Pilates instructor. Before these methods were as well-known as they are now, I used much of the Pilates classical mat work in training dancers to engage their core and enhance their performance. Experiencing the use of the Reformer has opened a whole new level of understanding the methods Joseph Pilates initially discovered. I love learning, exploring best practices, and engaging with students of all levels to help them achieve their goals. I'm certified in Pilates Mat & Reformer.

Alexandra...Originally from NJ, I moved to Raleigh from NY City during the Covid pandemic and was in search of connection and community. Working from home made me realize how important movement and social engagement were to my well-being. That’s when I found Pilates which became a passion. I was drawn to how practical and accessible Pilates is for everybody and every experience level. The principles made sense, the movements felt intentional, and I loved how empowered it made me feel—not just physically, but mentally. I’m comprehensively trained through Balanced Body on Mat, Reformer, Chair, Cadillac, Ladder & Barrel. I aim to create a welcoming space where clients can build strength, increase awareness, and feel at home in their bodies. Whether you're brand new or looking to deepen your practice, I’m here to support you every step of the way.

Emily Stoll...Emily is a certified Mat and Reformer Pilates instructor through the Moxie Pilates and Barre Teacher Training Program where she was proud to be the program’s first graduate. With a background in dance and aerobic exercise, she brings a strong understanding of movement quality, control, and alignment to every session. Her teaching emphasizes the core principles of Pilates - concentration, control, centering, precision, breath, and flow. Emily aims to meet each client where they are, tailoring classes based on how they’re feeling that day to support strength, stability, and body awareness. She especially enjoys teaching classes that incorporate the jump board or foam roller, using these tools to explore dynamic movement, core activation, and balance. Emily’s goal is to help people build strength and awareness they can carry into daily life. She hopes her classes encourage clients to tune in to their bodies, move with intention, and discover just how capable they are.

The Story So Far

Meet the Owner, Melissa

I was never athletic growing up. Outdoorsy, yes, but there were no sports scholarships being won here.

Movement was the way I found to help me overcome the powerlessness that engulfed me after gaining over a hundred pounds. My children were starting to play and explore life without me.  Rather than sink into the depression that threatened to overwhelm me, I moved.  I reached out to compassionate “movement” friends who rallied around me with kindness, encouragement, and motivation.

Through that journey, I became strong enough to participate in life again rather than be a bystander.

I had less pain, more freedom, and I began to put trust in my own body.

I was ready to jump into the adventure of life.

I am a teacher of movement and an empowerment educator so I can help others find their own inner strength. Together, we strengthen so much more than muscles.  We discover a life with less pain, more play, and more choice.

Our adventures, our interactions with family, friends and those we hold dear -- that's what makes life rich and meaningful.   I teach movement with that same combination of compassion, encouragement, and motivation so you can embrace life and engage with it to the fullest.
